After all, this is my travel camera and I'd often forget to update the time when I travel across timezones. I'm delighted snapbridge has a "synchronize clock" feature. One can hope that the snapbridge app will be updated - but Nikon has spent decades building a solid track record of astonishingly poor software execution, so I'm not holding my breath. You would think that snapbridge would at least update the location data once per every shot taken, but even repeated shots in the same location shared stale location data. This is compared about 60 times/sec when running a GPS application on the phone. But even though snapbridge was uploading 2mpix photos, it didn't seem to update the camera with location data more frequently than about every 10 minutes. I was using Android Auto to navigate in my car, so I know the phone location was good. Second time out, with the snapbridge app running, I found that 2mpix photos were auto uploaded promptly, but the location data in the camera was *not* updated promptly. Duh, phone needs to be running the snapbridge app, the camera isn't smart enough to talk to the phone without it. But the photos all returned with the same geotag - back at my office. You would think this would be handled during installation, but whatever, enabling it resulted in photos with geotags in my office - yay.įirst time I went out, I brought along my phone and the the BT associated D3400. Turns out that there is an additional snapbridge "opt-in" step needed to enable "upload location: On". I installed Snapbridge (version 1.) on my Samsung Galaxy S7 and associated the camera and the phone. The hope was that I'd be able to skip the GPX transfer and geotagging step in my workflow, as the D3400 would tag photos when taken using location data it gets from my phone via snapbridge. I'd ingest and re-name the D3400 photos using Photo Mechanic, which also has the ability to take that GPX and geotag the. I would run the Gaia GPS app on my phone, and after the trip, transfer the resulting. I used the D3300 primarily as a travel camera. Summary: snapbridge updates the D3400 with location data only about every 10-minutes, making the D3400 quite poor at geotagging photos.
